In this article, we will be concentrating on HTML phrase tags which are quite similar to other tags we have been discussing earlier on but they are specifically used for phrases and they provide additional properties to text.

Introduction to HTML Phrase tags

Phrase tags are tags used to format text phrases on the HTML web document and they are specifically used for:

  • Emphasizing on text
  • To bold text
  • For Marking Text
  • To add text quotations etc.

We will be limiting this lecture to only five phrase which we expect you to know at this moment and they include:

STRONG TEXT TAG

The strong text tag is used to bold a section of a text web document and they make use of the opening and closing (<strong> & </strong>) strong tags. Example shown below

<html lang="en">
<head>
    
</head>
<body  >
         <p> This is <strong>good and clean</strong> looking girl  </p> 
    
</body>
</html>

QUOTING TEXT TAGS

The quote text tags are used to add quotation marks to texts on a web document. The text to be quoted are placed between the opening and closing quote tags as shown below

<html lang="en">
<head>
    
</head>
<body  >
         <p> This is <q>good and clean</q> looking girl  </p> 
    
</body>
</html>

CODE TAGS

The codes tags are used to add codes to a web document. This will inform the web browser that all the information written between the opening and closing code tags (<code> & </code>) are codes and should be given the right formatting. Example shown below

<head>
    
</head>
<body  >
         <p> This is a <code>good and clean</code> code  </p> 
    
</body>
</html>

MARKED TEXT TAG

The marked tag is used to highlight a section of a text web document. The text to be highlighted should be placed in between the opening and closing mark tags as shown below

         <p> This is a <mark>good and clean</mark> code  </p> 
    
</body>
</html>

TEXT CITATION TAGS

The text citation tag is used for citing a section of the text in a sentence on the web document. Using the citation tag, the structure of the cited text differs from other text on the web document

         <p> This is a <cite>handsome and clean</cite> looking boy  </p>
